A Bath City Guide

The unmistakable elegant limestone buildings that you will see in photos couldn’t really be anywhere else but Bath.

A city designed around relaxation from the ancient roman baths to todays thermae Bath spa, the only natural hot springs in England that you can bathe in. A trip to Bath isn’t complete without a tour of the Roman Baths, immerse yourself in such well preserved history. As far as audio tours go this one is pretty good - coming from someone who isn’t a fan of audio tours. At the end there is a chance to try the Baths mineral water, however, this is one thing I wouldn’t recommend, YUCK!

Next up thermae bath spa. There‘s 2 parts of thermae bath spa and you can choose which you want to enter. I‘d recommend the option that allows access to the roof top pool, head up for sunset, or head up a bit later on and gaze over the city at night.

Fun fact if you see what looks like it should be windows but are filled with bricks or painted over, this is due to a window tax in 17th - 19th century. Tax was imposed depending on the amount of windows, so people got creative to avoid paying more tax. This impacted the whole of England but no where is it more evident than the Georgian architecture you see in Bath.

Some of the famous and exemplary cases of this architecture can be found on the Royal Crescent and Circus. Two of Baths most famous streets, and worth a stop whilst you’re wandering round Baths sites.

Other famous sites to stop at Pulteney bridge over the River Avon, head over the the quieter side and take a walk along the river - a must on a warm summers day. Also if you fancy something a bit more unique you can have a paddle boarding lesson to the back drop of the beautiful limestone Bath.

Another stand out building is Baths Abbey. It is definitely worth a visit, I’d also recommend you book yourself onto a rooftop / tower tour, discover more about its history, explore the hidden tunnels most people don’t get to see and you’ll get some of the best views Bath from the top! Disclaimer, if you’re claustrophobic it’s probably not one for you.

There’s to great walking loops around Bath taking in both the city and the surrounding countryside. Including the stunning views from Bathwick hill.

The Bath Skyline walk is 6 miles long;
