Sucre City Guide

Sucre was an unexpected surprise, we thought it would be a bit of a stop to break up the journey but it ended up being very memorable and definitely has some not to miss activities, ie dinosaurs.

Sucre is the constitutional capital of Bolivia, and is an UNESCO world heritage city. It holds great significant as it is home to

the Supreme Court. The cathedral and old central government building are also worth a visit.

The city is extremely well preserved and is home to lots of colonial architecture. Whilst you wander around exploring the city, pass through Parque Bolivar. The city doesn’t have loads to do but it is certianlt worth a stop, the locals are all welcoming and the atmosphere helps to make this stop a hidden gem.

Sucre is also a great chance to take part in a traditional cooking and dining experience if you missed doing so on a stop in La Paz, book on with a local company, who partner with residents who will invite you into their home.

Next up are the 2 things which made us love Sucre.

We headed to the outskirts of the city and went rock climbing. We are both keen climbers, though we were with some novices so experience is not needed if you book with a guide. We didn’t think we‘d get much of a chance to go rock climbing as we’d factored in so much hiking throughout our trip, and Bolivia is certianlt not someone where we anticipated the opportunity would pop up, but it did and we jumped at the chance. There was a variety of difficulties, however, the rock was a lot more crumbly than anything outdoors we’d experienced before.

The second involves dinosaurs, just outside Sucre you’ll find the worlds largest collection of dinosaur footprints, how cool! We weren’t going to miss this how many people can say they’ve seen that! If you to also want to visit you’ll need to head to Crestaceous park, you can get there by bus from the main square in Sucre. This part is full of plastic dinosaurs which is just a bit of fun. The good bit - You’ll then be able to join the next tour down to Cal d'orko, where you can see the footprints up Close and learn more. Unfortunately, it is next to a quary and at high risk of being ruined, it’s also a bit dusty but well worth the visit.

If you want to combine dinosaur footprints with a hiking trip, you can book yourself onto a hiking tour. Where you’ll get some fantastic views, and scout out dinosaur footprints in the ground. This is, however, significantly more expensive at £40+

Quirky things about Sucre, they have people dressed as zebras, helping people cross zebra crossings.
